Flexible modulation in metal detection beats product effect from salad dressing

A German producer of wholesale salad dressings and other items is using Mitus metal detection and MiWave modulation from Minebea Intec for best results. 

Highly conductive products pose a challenge for processors needing to inspect for possible metal contamination before sending them out to customers. The reduced levels of detection sensitivity achievable with its previous system prompted a German manufacturer to switch to using a Mitus metal detector twinned with the BMK belt and equipped with MiWave, which allows it to detect the presence of even the smallest metallic foreign objects. 

Improved outcomes include increased productivity, thanks to a reduction in false positives and erroneous rejects. 

A spokesman for the manufacturer reports that the company is very happy with the performance of Mitus. “It has a high level of detection sensitivity, despite high product effect, which has also been demonstrated using our test cards,” he says. “This gives me great certainty that I can quickly and reliably detect any potential metal contamination in my product.” 

MiWave generates a range of modulated frequencies in the transmitter signal, which can then be separated and evaluated using an intelligent algorithm, Minebea Intec explains.

Ease of use is another advantage of the Mitus unit, with an operating panel to guide users through the teaching process for each product, and with a user management tool to limit access to settings. The design is also said to be easy to clean with smooth and sealed surfaces.
