New large-character inkjet marking adds self-cleaning head to high-resolution print

The Videojet 2380 will code on to corrugated cases as well as other porous shipping unit materials, and is claimed to be easy to integrate and operate with its automatic self-cleaning.

According to Videojet, this self-clean routine is triggered automatically, helping to ensure consistent print quality with less mess and downtime. It can also be operated with minimal training, it claims.

The modular large character marking (LCM) system offers on-demand coding of variable data such as lot codes, manufacturing dates and contents onto cartonboard and corrugated. Two printheads can be integrated, with no need for additional hardware, to code on to one or two sides of the unit. Codes can be delivered up to 5.5 inches (140mm) in height, with the two heads controlled from a single, separate user interface.

The intuitive touchscreen offers onboard job editing and operator guides. Embedded protocols ensure USB connectivity, VideojetConnect compatibility and ZPL (Zebra Programming Language) emulation. WiFi is also embedded for remote access and analysis, and the human-machine interface (HMI) readily integrates with a barcode scanner for rapid job selection and data entry.

Videojet account manager Peter Montgomery characterises the 2380 LCM as “a comprehensive solution that enhances efficiency, reduces costs and ensures optimal print quality”.

“Though it’s one of our most technologically advanced printers, it’s extremely easy to install and operate,” he says. “It’s been designed with our customers’ needs in mind and the advanced connectivity options available ensure that this printer is futureproof and ready for Industry 4.0 automation.”

The 2380 features an air knife that helps to clean the nozzle plant. Meanwhile, an automatic micro-purge process can be programmed to clean the printhead nozzles at specific intervals, helping to prevent dust blockages without stopping production. Ink used in the auto-purge process is recycled back into the system. The compact ink canister, in any one of seven ink shades, can be quickly and easily changed with no disruption to production.

The construction in 304-grade stainless steel is ideal for dynamic case and carton production environments, Videojet adds.
